Committed to helping our clients succeed.

During my college and (brief) professional basketball career, I found that the most successful teams have players with expertise, a deep understanding of their specific role, and each team member does their job, no matter how difficult, so that the team can accomplish its objectives without worrying who gets the credit. This is my goal when my clients make me part of their team – to acquire a clear understanding of their goals and values, to apply our firm’s extensive knowledge and experience to develop a gameplan to achieve their objectives, and to execute that gameplan through discipline, collaboration, and effective communication.

To do this effectively, I apply my distinct professional background in the study of economics, experience in financial services, prior legal practice in commercial litigation, bankruptcy, and lender liability, along with the problem-solving and leadership skills I developed for many years as the Associate Dean of Students and Career Services and adjunct professor at the Charleston School of Law. Along the way, I have honed my skills to guide and mentor people and organizations as they navigate challenges and seek to accomplish their goals. These experiences inform my approach as we assist clients develop effective estate plans, navigate complex tax issues, form new companies, build and grow their businesses, and facilitate transactions.

I received my law degree, magna cum laude, from the Charleston School of Law where I was active on the Charleston Law Review and Moot Court board. At graduation, I was inducted into the Forensic Club, the school’s premier honor society, which recognizes leadership, professionalism, public service, and academic commitment.

A native Jayhawk, I arrived in South Carolina to attend Furman University where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and once I realized I wouldn’t need an ice- scraper, I made Charleston my permanent home.

I am admitted to practice law in the state and federal courts of South Carolina and am an active member of the Charleston County Bar, and the Petigru Inn of Court. I am certified in Mental Health First Aid and have served on the South Carolina Bar Wellness Committee and the board of the South Carolina chapter of the Federal Bar Association.

My wife, Lucy (also a lawyer), and I live in downtown Charleston with our two boys who keep us very busy with middle school, sports, and church activities.
